Yellow Monkeys #1 is a moment in the life of a pair of carved wooden monkeys I rescued one day in the huge chaos of a market in Katmandu’s Durbar square, where among the tons of gaudy tourist junk a keen eye can spot wonderful sometimes very spooky, antique Nepalese folk art. The Yellow Monkeys don’t move much, yet peer at them for a few seconds and you will see them come alive. The monkeys smile gently, yet their smiles are enigmatic, curious and questioning, constantly asking the viewer to ponder what they are thinking. Children love the Yellow Monkeys, who quickly become good friends.
