New Toy Portrait- Fly Away
Spring is definitely here in the Santa Cruz mountains, with the rain clouds nowhere in sight and the temperatures turning warm and sweet.
I just added a new work to the Toy Portraits catalog - called Fly Away...http://www.charleslewisart.com/toy-portraits-paintings/detail/fly-away/.
Fly Away is an encounter painting. The fun part of an encounter is its potential for drama. Put two or more things together in an encounter and your mind goes into gear, because we deal with encounter situations every day - in stores, in our cars, at work, in our relationships. These encounter pictures are fraught with emotion, conflict and tension. Not bad versions of those things, mind you, but rather odd and fun kinds of tension. What are the subjects doing together? Are they friends, enemies, or just individuals thrown together in a strange way? How will they resolve their encounter? I love the way children study these encounter pictures, and the stories they create to explain them. If you have any kid’s stories to share, I’d love to hear them. If they are really good I’ll post them with the picture.
